Understanding User Roles

User Roles

User Roles Table

Use Case Example

There is no "one-size-fits-all" solution for handling roles in Open EdX. The following is a somewhat common use case for an organization that wants to manage multiple micro-sites.

Superusers (all privileges) and Staff users (edit access to all courses) should be centralized. These users will handle user support like password resets across all the sites.

Course Creators should be assigned per microsite, so that they can create and edit courses within their site. Note that by default, course creators can also create courses on other sites. Any restrictions to this should be enforced by business rules and/or platform modifications.
